"It's odd, and a little unsettling, to reflect upon the fact that English is the only major language in which "I" is capitalized; in many other languages "You" is capitalized and the "i" is lower case."    -- Sydney J. Harris

Ironic

An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery, and died the next day.
It's a black fly in your Chardonnay.
It's a death row pardon two minutes late...
It's like rain on your wedding day.
It's a free ride when you've already paid.
It's the good advice that you just didn't take...
A traffic jam when you're already late.
A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break.
It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife.
It's meeting the man of my dreams,
And then meeting his beautiful wife.

-- Alanis Morissette

"It has been said that poetry is a picture without form, and painting a poem with form."  -- Kuo Hsi

We have flown the air like birds and swum the sea like fishes, but have yet to learn the simple act of walking the earth like brothers.

Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice. Justice at its best is love correcting everything that stands against love.

I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. That is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.

The good neighbor looks beyond the external accidents and discerns those inner qualities that make all men human and, therefore, brothers.

Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral. It is impractical because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all. It is immoral because it seeks to humiliate the opponent rather than win his understanding; it seeks to annihilate rather than to convert. Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love.

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become reality. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.

"I have a dream that one day out in the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood...  I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by their character...   With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood...  We are not satisfied and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream."

There was an important job to be done and everyone was asked to do it.
Everybody was sure Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody’s job.
Everybody thought Anybody could do it but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it.
It ended up Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Good Doctors do the correct thing, great Doctors have the guts to do the right thing.  If you could cure cancer by killing one person wouldn't you have to do that?

...Maybe there isn't a point to the peoples [bums, homeless, junkies, & addicts] lives upstairs.  Maybe they are heroes but, they didn't choose to be.   [For the experiment] You didn't choose your wife, your daughter...  You didn't have volunteers.  You choose for them; and you can't do that.  Your a Doctor...you took an oath.  You don't have the right, your not God.  You tortured those men upstairs and I hope you go to jail for the rest of your life!

                                                                                                               -- Extreme Measures

What really happened at the Worlds Fair

"1500 years ago, everybody "knew" that the earth was the center of the universe.  500 years ago, everybody 'knew' that the earth was flat.  And 15 minutes ago, you "knew" that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll 'know' tomorrow."

"You'll dress only in attire specially sanctioned by M.I.B. special services. You'll conform to the identity we give you, eat where we tell you, live where we tell you. From now on you'll have no identifying marks of any kind. You'll not stand out in any way. Your entire image is crafted to leave no lasting memory with anyone you encounter. You're a rumor, recognizable only as deja vu and dismissed just as quickly. You don't exist; you were never even born. Anonymity is your name. Silence your native tongue. You're no longer part of the System.  You're above the System.  Over it.  Beyond it.  We're 'them.'  We're 'they.'  We are the Men in Black."
